The Volyn region has a glorious chronicle history. The list of architectural monuments of national importance in the Volyn region includes 203 objects, archeological monuments - 149 (of which 16 are of national importance). 1282 historical monuments (of which 7 are of national importance) and 35 monuments of monumental art (of which one is of national importance) have been recorded.
In total, there are 220 lakes in the Volyn region; rivers such as Pripyat, Stokhod, Styr, Western Bug and others flow through its territory.
The name "Volyn" as a definition of the territory appeared in the Chronicle of 1077 and comes from the name of the ancient city presumably. Historical Volyn is not only the Volyn region, but is also the territories of the Rivne, Zhytomyr and even Ternopil regions.
